Set Your Mind On Things Above

Hello! Today I just kinda wanted to talk about life. Everyone says being a teenager is hard. Well, it is. But it can be better. It all depends on how you react to things. I hear people complain about silly things like "Oh my friend was talking about me." "this boy doesn't like me." "School is so stupid." Don't get me wrong, I fuss a lot about stupid things. We all do. But I try to put it in perspective. In the end when this is all done, when we're face to face with God, is it even going to matter? No. The only thing that's going to matter is how you responded to it. Why should I spend my whole life worrying about what my friends think of me or who's talking about me behind my back? God knows whats going on. The people who do wrong will get punished for it. So don't follow.
In Psalm 73 David tells God how he noticed that the people who don't follow God have it to easy. He says how he follows God with his all and every day he get's oppressed. But I love the way this chapter ends. He doesn't end by saying that he's going to stop following God so he can get it easier. Nope. David knows that the people who do wrong will get punished. The last couple verses in this chapter are beautiful! He says "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. For, behold, those who are far from you will perish; You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to you. But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works."
In the end none of the stupid little things that people like to complain about are going to matter, so focus on things above. Focus on God.
"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."-Psalm 37:4
"Set your mind on things above, not on the things that are on the earth."-Colossians 3:2

True Friendship

Hello again! So all week I've been trying to think of a new idea for a blog when suddenly one came to me as I was watching The Lord Of The Rings with my mom and two friends. My mom has determined that the two best friends in the whole world are Sam (from Lord Of The Rings.) and Wilson (from House.) As we watched the Return Of The King we discussed the friendship between both Sam and Frodo and Wilson and Dr. House. I stated that both Sam and Wilson had friends that were mean or something. House and Frodo aren't the kind of friends they should be, especially with the guys they consider their best friend.
Sam and Wilson both set good examples of how friends should be towards each other. But one thing really stuck out to me: they're kindness wasn't determined by how their friend treated them. Frodo was arrogant and mean, yet Sam turned back with love and compassion.
Just because someone's being mean to you doesn't mean you need to do the same. I hear all the time about how friendships are falling, and I think part of it is that they expect the other person to be nicer or better, instead of focusing on themselves. People are to self centered. The world tries to tell us that we need to do whatever we can to make ourselves happy. Well the world is usual. We need to be a little more selfless. Stop focusing on what you want. I'm not saying it's easy. I have my own times where I only think of myself. But try. Try to think a little less of yourself and a little more of someone else. Sam and Wilson did, and look, they're considered the bestest friends in the world.

Valentines Day

Well it's that day everyone. Today can either be your favorite day of the year or your least favorite. For some it makes them happy to get things from their valentine and for others it makes them sad because all it does it remind them that they don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend.
Well guess what? I'm 15 and I've never had a boyfriend. You know whats even better? I'm not mad about that! I'm 15, I don't need to be worried about who I'm going to marry. Life is so much more then guys. So every year I spend Valentines day with God. Because He loves me so much more then anyone ever could! The world tries to tell you that in order to be happy you need to have a boyfriend (or girlfriend). But you don't. The love that this world can offer is temporary, But God's love is eternal. He loves you so much that He sent His one and only Son to die the most brutal death for you. For YOU!
When I went on my first missions trip last year our handbooks had a story in it. A women named Cathleen Shrier (a college professor.) wrote a scientific description of Jesus' death. It was probably the saddest thing I have ever read. I've been trying to find the article online but have had no luck. But it describes exactly what Christ went through, and He did it all for you.
So this Valentines day I encourage you to spend some time reading your bible. That's the greatest love letter ever written. God's trying to get your attention, so listen up!
So I hope you have a fantastic day!

Respecting Your Parents

Hello. Today I watched a video and so and so and I just wanted to tell all you kids out there to respect your parents! For real! Ok, I know its hard, I'm a kid too. I'm nowhere near perfect or perfectly respectful, but you have to at least care or try and change. Your parents just want whats best for you!
When they take away your phone or laptop or ground you, they're not doing it to be mean. Its called DISCIPLINE! That means you did something wrong and their trying to correct you. Its not the end of the world when you get you phone taken away.
One of the things that drives me CRAZY is when people talk bad about their parents on facebook. I mean, really? Your gonna swear at your parents where everyone can see it? You shouldn't even be swearing at all! Your parents are trying to raise you to be good people. Yes you have to do chores, yes sometimes you'll get into fights but TRY! Try to have a good relationship with them.
Geez....Sorry I'm ranting. But it drives me crazy how teenagers are these days! There are actually nice teenagers around, but since there are so many typical teens everyone assumes that all teens are that way.
So in case you didn't get the message, please, PLEASE try to have a little more respect for your parents regardless of how unfair you think life is! Gosh.....For real. Whatever. Thanks for reading my rant! Until next time, and may the Force be with you!
